Rebranding strategies for developers

Rebranding strategies for developers

I shut down my personal portfolio/website cause I wanted to redesign it. I want a modern looking website that represents who I am, showcasing my skills in the best way possible. Following Colby Fayock presentation on the Hashnode Bootcamp III, I saw this as an opportunity to learn a few tips that would help me best achieve my goal.

The message following the presentation was consistency. Consistency is required to build and maintain a personal brand. Certain things need to be considered and changes made where necessary.

What Makes Consistency

  • Images You want to have images that can easily be tied to you. This can be used to identify you on different platforms like LinkedIn, Facebook, Twitter even if there are other users with similar usernames, e.t.c. A consistent profile image would make it easier for someone searching for you to identify you.

  • Messaging: your message or goal needs to be consistent and you'll need to find yours. What message are you trying to send to people? E.g helping developers learn, building a safe space for code newbies, e.t.c.

  • Your Voice: Your topics have to be consistent with the message you're trying to send

Basically, consistency is a game-changer

Having a personal brand has certain advantages that would make you consider building one if you want these things for yourself.

  • It makes you an authority on certain topics. Doing the necessary research to create content is also a learning process for you and helps you solidify your knowledge on the topics you'll create content about.
  • Building communities
  • Adding value to the ecosystem

There's always going to be imposter syndrome and that uncomfortable feeling means you're growing. That should not stop you from creating a personal brand for yourself
